Thoughts

The end of an era. getting our heads around this is difficult. Loyal friends who shall be missed. But endless memories and photographs to go back on,

I spent many hours at my Dad's bedside during the final week. On the final day it had been a bright morning but as i left the Hospice after his passing a few showers started. Looking up at the sky i was surprised to see a rainbow. I lost sight of it for a bit on the drive back to Dad's place right until the final turn less than 100 yards from his house. There it was again colours strong and vivid. Almost certainly a fluke, just coincidence but for me a sign that he had reached a better place and was free of the big C (cancer).

My Dad was a private man preferring to stay in the background, center stage was not for him. He had strong opinions and principles on the way things should be. Boats, sailing and in his latter years caravanning were his passions. He was an amazing practical guy. There was no DIY job that he couldn't turn his hand to. Property maintenance, car maintenance, boat building the list of skills was endless. He excelled at being a family man and a father encouraging and supporting me at every stage. He was devoted to my mother and they had a fantastic marriage lasting more than 60 years. For me he was a rock. The person i would always turn to for advice about so many things. The words "simply the best" come to mind.
